In 2017, after years of driving, I got into my first car accident. Followed by a second, about 3 months later. The car was totaled and long story short, I was out from work for nearly 1 year. It all began when I lifted a pail of water and I couldn't move all of a sudden. I was stuck in that position just hearing my mind speak, but my body could not move. As a nurse, it sent red flags and I knew I needed serious medical help.
I found out I had sustained cervical and lumber herniations, as well as multiple right ankle tendon tears. I had to wear a brace and/or support on my neck, back, and right ankle. I was in and out of doctors and specialists' offices with therapies and treatments ranging from 3 to 6 times a week, seeking help from 9 different health care providers. I suffered numbness and tingling and loss of strength on my right arm and right leg. Occasionally, I'd have shooting pain go through my right leg and have sudden loss of strength when walking. I found myself having sensitivities to medications, learning that a simple over-the-counter muscle relaxant caused my semi-amnesia. I couldn't recall half of the days (of 3 consecutive days) after I took half of the medication prescribed to me.
I couldn't remember where I was, what I did, or what I had eaten no matter how hard I tried to remember. I also had a couple epidural injections and was offered to have surgeries on all areas of my injuries: the main ones being the cervical (neck) spine and the lumber (lower back) region. I was told that a metal will be placed on them. When asked how long is recovery, I was told a minimum of another 6 months. This was my life for almost a year. I couldn't do any activities that I normally do such as running, dancing, biking, climbing, badminton, and more! Most importantly, I wasn't able to do any physical activities with my family. I weighed my pros and cons and chose to opt out of surgery. At some point, I was told that they cannot care for me anymore as I'm not making any more progress (this also means that the insurance will not cover for my care anymore).
On one of the days that I found myself home alone, feeling stiffness in my body only being able to do limited movements, I felt a huge dark cloud of dread coming over me - an engulfing energy I'm not often used to. It felt like a hole just opened up on the floor and I was quickly being swallowed whole. Tears started running down my eyes, uncontrollably, and I became almost inconsolable.
As I started to calm down and get myself together, I found my conviction and decided that I cannot live like this. There must be another way. There is no way I am accepting that my life will be just like this until the day I die, feeling trapped in a body that is limiting me to my full potential. "No way!", I heard myself say.
From there I searched for what I needed - I asked God and the universe to guide me, and even though I didn't know exactly what I was looking for. When it came, I just knew. This is just another example that when you ask sincerely, it will be presented to you. It's only up to you if you recognize it, and accept what is offered or not.
Through this process of healing (and it’s not what I thought it would be), I was able to figure out surprising ways to improve my mobility, manage my pain, and to top it off, learned simple yet efficient techniques in navigating through my healing capabilities. In addition, it helped me heal my relationships, most especially with my estranged father whom I haven’t spoken with for almost 20 years. It all happened within a year's time. I felt happy and renewed!
Through this, I have helped others rekindle and renew their spirits, improve their health and enhance their relationships. I heal one thing that bothered me and it heals other aspects of my life. In this process, I'm able to share my experience, knowledge, and insights with others, so they too can experience their own healing process. I decided to write my bestselling book, Taking Back Your Health and Happiness, where I share some profound healing with some of the most amazing and inspiring humans I coach and work with, who go through their own unique, albeit similar processes in recovering their own process of healing.
“I had never had a spiritual reading before and didn't really know what to expect. She gave me a reading that blew me away. It was like she knew parts of me and things about me that I didn't even share with her. She tapped into my desires, fears and blocks; some that I didn't even know I had. Her level of intuition is off the charts. Then she offers suggestions that aren't overwhelming. I will continue to use her as my spiritual guide. Love you and thank you so much.”
On Side Effects with Medications in Americans, according to Harvard University literature based on the work and authored by Donald W. Light (link):
"About 81 million adverse reactions are experienced by the 170 million Americans taking drugs. The elderly and those taking multiple drugs experience more than others. Most are medically minor, like muscle aches, gastro-intestinal discomforts, slower reactions, or sleepiness. But they reduce productivity and cause many falls and road accidents."
Let me be clear- I am not against medications because I for one know that it can help. After all, I am a nurse and have seen how medications have aided many patients in their road to recovery. What I am highlighting are for those who have sensitivities, adverse reactions or side effects from medications that could cause them to live in dis-ease and discomfort. I'm talking about people like me who may be having to deal with the other effects of medications such as brain fog, bodily discomfort that is hard to explain, extreme fatigure, loss of memory, depression, and being unable to enjoy living in the present moment.
On Chronic Pain, according to CDC (link):
In 2019, 20.4% of adults had chronic pain and 7.4% of adults chronic pain that frequently limited life or work activities (referred to as high impact chronic pain) in the past 3 months.
On depression, according to CDC (link):
During August 19-31, 2020 through December 9-21, 2020, significant increases were observed in the percentages of adults who reported experiencing symptoms of an anxiety disorder (from 31.4% to 36.9%), depressive disorder (from 24.5% to 30.2%), and at least one of these disorders (from 36.4% to 42.4%) [Figure 1]. Estimates for all three mental health indicators through January 2021 were similar to those in December 2020.
Happiness is the highest form of health.
